To My People

 To my people,
Break those locks that were implanted on your minds.
It’s okay to color outside the line,
And it’s fine to break down and cry.
But use that time to also disown the word “mine”,
And to get closer to the ones who gave you life
And will continue to hold you down at night.
Expand that mind to pure greatness,
And look at yourself as a work of art in progress.

To my people,
Allow those wounds on your body to heal.
Stop feeding your pain with ignorance,
And start enhancing yourself with profound knowledge of your past and the lesson of forgiveness.
Don’t leave your integrity out for dead.
It’s time for you to think ahead.
Your beauty eliminates all standards and is as bright as the sun,
But you constantly stone it,
Leaving yourself ashamed and alone.
You need to start realizing that your beauty represents your spirit and your spirit is magnificent.

To my people,
Be proud of those scars inherited on your soul.
Bring into light your highs and lows,
And use the love, passion, and hope grown from your history’s garden
To take charge of what you want to see happen.
So don’t shun your blackness.
Your presence is someone else’s blessing.
So why hold yourself back when you are what society lacks?

Hold on, my people.
Keep fighting.
It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
Soon, things will be alright.
But Until then,
Value your sisters, your brothers, and your own lives.

Love to my people.
